Seniors might be exhibiting signs of senioritis as spring approaches. One senior stuffs his face instead of working on his assignment in AP Literature and Composition.

With midterms coming to a close, the light at the end of the tunnel is near for students. We are officially halfway through the school year, and with that comes the deadliest disease to wreak havoc among the eldest of the school: senioritis.

Senioritis is no myth, it is dreadful and can single-handedly be the reason many students from the senior class will be sitting through exams once more when they are not exempt from finals.

It is imperative that students receives A’s in their classes for the final two marking periods to avoid taking any more exams. It may seem tough when you’re trying to finish a math problem and some supernatural force is drawing you to your bed, or the TV, or the kitchen. However, with help from many survivors of this horrid curse, here are a few ways to avoid senioritis:

  1. Stay focused: It is important to follow what is going on in all of your classes so that your workload does not seem so overwhelming. It is also important so that, of course, you can receive exemption from finals.
  2. Stay organized: Make a schedule so that your work is spread out and you don’t find yourself scrambling to finish it all at once. If you do a little work at a time, it may feel like your typical “easy senior year.”
  3. Keep your eyes on the prize: Like I said, the end is near, and you want to make it there. You need to pass your classes and you have worked too hard for the past four years to have anything stop that now. Keep working!
  4. Remember all you’ve done: Like number 3, think of all the homework, studying, volunteer work, and applications you had to endure during high school to get to where you are. You do not want to ruin all of that by taking two marking periods off and jeopardizing your future.
  5. Nothing is guaranteed: Graduation is not guaranteed. College acceptances can be revoked. Don’t let yourself be that person who has to skip the end of the year beach trip to take a final for an “easy” class you scheduled and then didn’t take seriously.

If you follow these five steps, second semester should be a breeze. College apps are done, summer and college are near, and you just potentially took your last high school exam. Stay positive and keep pushing class of 2017, we’ve almost made it!
