Previewed on Nov. 22, world renowned artist Drake posted a mysterious encrypted video to his Instagram page, “champagnepapi,” showing the city of Toronto, a never seen before logo, and then the Nike logo with the date 12/18/20.  In the caption of the post, is a tagged account, newly made at the time, that led to a private account which previewed the logo seen in the video, and only followed by a certain number of people.  After some time passed, a new account surfaced under the name “officialnocta,” with the blue check of verification, which gave fans even a larger sneak peak of the up and coming clothing line.

Looking at the first grouping of pictures, it seems to be a majority of cold weather gear, those of puffy jackets, ski-maskesque head gear, and more.  Which makes sense, being that his home is  Toronto, Canada, where the weather isn’t too warm.

There was also an article released on Nike.com that was seemingly written by the Drake himself explaining the meaning of the collaboration with Nike and the substance it holds for him personally.

“I mean, growing up Nike was everything,” Drake said. “It felt like every shoe I wanted, every athlete I liked, everything I owned was Nike. It didn’t mean anything unless it had a Swoosh. ”

A relatable, down to earth statement by the Toronto native, that proves to still be relevant today, where Nike reigns supreme in the clothing world, whether it’s streetwear or for athletics.

In the article, Drake also reiterates the mindset of the clothing line and brand they are trying to create, saying it surrounds “an unforgiving drive, a relentlessness,” and “also includes loyalty and team.”

Through his words and publicity, it’s evident Drake is trying to create something that is more than just clothing, something with substance, clothing of meaning, and a line with personality.

This isn’t the first time that the artist has had involvement with the fashion/clothing genre.  Drake co-owns the label and sportswear line “OVO,” otherwise known as “October’s Very Own,” which offers a wide variety of good quality clothing at high prices.  He also released his own series of Jordan shoes, which resell at a steep price and can no longer be purchased via retail.  Along with the sneakers, Drake put out promotional clothing for his upcoming album, Certified Lover Boy, that were also produced by Nike, which sold out in seconds.

As well as releasing clothing, Drake has mentioned the importance of Nike, while also throwing disses at Adidas in Travis Scott’s Sicko Mode, with Travis Scott also being a Nike partner:

“Jesus Christ (yeah), checks over stripes (yeah)
That’s what I like (yeah), that’s what we like (yeah)”

It’s safe to say Drake has a good relationship with the brand, both being top tier of their craft.  Keep an eye out on Dec. 18, for Drake’s NOCTA line, which will hold some good value, for either your own pleasure, or economic growth.
