Collecting shells from beaches on the Jersey Shore is a spring break option.

While most years students look forward to traveling to warmer places for spring break, this year looks slightly different with new restrictions on travel. Since traveling out of state requires quarantining and testing upon return, many families are unable or unwilling to venture out of state for spring break. While students might not be able to enjoy the warm beaches of Florida, plenty is available to do within New Jersey.

The Jersey Shore is always a popular option for students during spring vacations and is only a short car ride away. Down at the shore, restaurants are open with their own individual restrictions as well as some shops. Students could make their spring break feel like an extravagant vacation by renting a house down the shore or staying in a hotel for the duration of spring break.

Another popular spring break activity is hiking. The Sourland Mountains are a popular spot for Raiders to venture out to for outdoor activities in the spring and summer seasons. Spring break could be a great opportunity for students to explore all the trails the mountain has to offer and get quality time outside and exercise with friends and family.

Spring cleaning is also a good, productive alternative for spring break. Donating clothes and items that are no longer in use is a great way to give back to the community during times of need. After cleaning out old junk, another fun activity could be redecorating a bedroom or space in the house.

More fun outdoor activities that could be time-consuming during a quiet spring break include fishing, going for a bike ride, and stargazing. All these activities could be done socially distanced with friends or in the company of family.
