The variety of toppings at Fruity Yogurt are eclectic, to say the least.

Frozen yogurt is the obvious winner of a century-long debate over which frozen delicacy is better: fro-yo or ice cream. Frozen yogurt combines the sweet taste that everyone loves from ice cream, with the soft serve elements that melts in your mouth, unlike the hard ice cream that is common in ice cream parlors.

Other aspects of frozen yogurt that give it victory over ice cream is the variety of options you can use to add flavor and zest. All frozen yogurt places charge by weight, not size, so you can control the price of your delicious treat. You can adorn your frozen yogurt cup with a variety of toppings, like fruit, candy, or even brownie/ cookie dough bites.

In the end, by the time you purchase your frozen yogurt, it looks like a Christmas tree, adorned with edible ornaments and garlands of fruit. The cherry is often the star on top of the Christmas tree of dairy delight.

But an issue facing Hillsborough residents is one that’s been pervasive for about five years, since Earth Fruits Yogurt took up resident next to Lee’s Sushi and dethroned Fruity Yogurt as the default frozen yogurt option in Hillsborough.  Which begs the question, which frozen yogurt place is better?

In my opinion, Fruity Yogurt is better. Located alongside Catered Affair, Fruity yogurt has been an integral part of Hillsborough for years. It provides a wonderful post- sandwich delicacy that tingles the taste buds and warms the heart.

On the topic of toppings, Fruity Yogurt takes the cake. Fruity Yogurt has the widest array of toppings, with one section dedicated to fruit and cookie bites of brownie and chocolate chip; and the other, dedicated to candy and cookie straws. Earth Fruits on the other hand, only offers about 10 toppings, of candy and fruit options.

For my lactose intolerant soldiers, Fruity Yogurt also offers a vegan option of yogurt with no dairy or other animal products. Personally, this is what puts Fruity Yogurt a cut above for me, a lactose intolerant friendly menu.  Usually dairy products, especially ice cream and frozen yogurt, prove to be a one way street to stomach cramp city. But at Fruity Yogurt, that fear is eviscerated when I make a beeline to the vegan frozen yogurt option.

Overall, Fruity Yogurt is to frozen yogurt what Catered Affair is to sandwiches, a haven of originality, and passion in craft.  Their ability to maintain a long- standing relationship with the citizens of Hillsborough truly places them on another level. Therefore, that is why I think Fruity Yogurt is truly the best place to buy frozen yogurt in Hillsborough. Now, go get that love.
