Winning first place in an annual competition three times in the past four years seems almost impossible for most to accomplish. However, the HHS marching band was able to achieve this monumental goal.

On Oct. 28, Elizabeth, West Orange, Passaic, and Hillsborough all gathered at Rutgers stadium Saturday night for the NJ State Championship sponsored by US Bands.

The band performed a show they called, “Imagination”. This was inspired by the two different ideas and activities from both the right and left hemispheres of the human brain.

Winning was nothing new for the band, however, the thrill of victory still satisfied all of those on the team.

“Winning the the competition felt really good,” sophomore George Hart said. “It was raining which made it hard to perform, and it felt really good to see our hard work pay off.”

The marching band consists of 104 members along with the color guard. The band hopes to continue its success throughout the season, and this win will help motivate the Raiders.
