Girls basketball opened up the season on Friday with an enormous win on the road at Phillipsburg.

The team opened the game strong, finishing the first quarter with a 12-5 lead. The game tightened up, but Hillsborough was able to earn the 41-39 victory.

Sophomore Dani Pescatore led both teams with a 21 point performance. Junior Alyssa Freda added on 10 points, and senior Olivia Buckman tacked on five.

Senior Liz Suseck was happy with the team’s performance.

“We worked really hard to prepare for this game,” Suseck said. “Phillipsburg beat us last year on opening night, and we wanted to get them back. Everyone worked together really well, and we were able to win.”

The girls look to continue their winning ways at North Hunterdon on Tuesday.
