The baseball team ended their season with a record of 16-6, and won the Skyland Conference.

This year’s baseball team is one that will be remembered for many more seasons to come because of their tremendous start to the season, and for winning the Skyland Conference.

Even though their season did not end the way they wanted it to, they still started off with an impressive record of 11-1. A large contribution to the team’s success early in the season are the players who had the highest batting averages this season. These players include junior Luke Monsorno, and seniors Vincent Gambardella and Andrew Lagerman.

Despite a disappointing end in their first round of states at the end of the season, the baseball team still had huge successes, including winning many games and tournaments.

The baseball team’s season ended on May 22 concluding their very successful season. This year’s team won the Skyland Conference for the first time since 2006; the conference was won with a win over Watchung Hills.

“It felt amazing to win the Skyland Conference,” junior Luke Monsorno said. “Being that this was the first time Hillsborough has won it since 2006, I feel like it was a great accomplishment for our team.”

The end of the HHS baseball season also means the end of an era for many seniors who are graduating this year.

“What I’m gonna miss the most about our current team is the seniors that helped me and this program a ton,” Monsorno said. “They were some key pieces to our team and I’m gonna miss them a lot. Our chemistry this year was one of a kind and we were a very close team, which was a big part of our success this year.”

When reflecting on the end of the season, the baseball team had many highs and lows, but all their success outweighs any tribulations, and it was a great year.

“I felt that this a great season overall,” Monsorno said. “Even though we did come up short in some of the big games this year, we ended with a 16-6 record, which is a huge improvement compared to the last couple seasons, and our future is looking bright for next year.”
