Safe+Sound Candlelight Vigil Brings Hope
October 29, 2019
Recently, Safe+Sound Somerset hosted a candlelight vigil on Oct. 16. The vigil intended members of the community to come together in remembrance, hope and action to support the thousands of victims and survivors of domestic abuse and intimate partner violence in Somerset County. The event was hosted in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Originally, the vigil was supposed to be hosted on the steps of the United Reformed Church, 100 W. Main St., Somerville, however, due to weather, the event was moved inside the church.
Guests at the vigil were asked to sign a pledge to #BeTheHope2019 to end domestic abuse. Safe+Sound Somerset encourages community members to educate themselves about domestic abuse and share the information with their family and friends to promote healthy relationships. The organization hosts multiple other events to educate people in somerset county on unhealthy relationships as well as the dangers of domestic violence.
Safe+Sound Somerset is a private, nonprofit agency in Somerset County that provides services to survivors of domestic abuse and their families. Their services help those in need of getting back on their feet after tough and draining situations. The amazing staff stops at nothing to help their clients achieve happiness and success in regaining their lives back.
In addition to their services, the organization offers volunteer opportunities to teens who wish to contribute and give back to the community. A major upcoming opportunity is the 2019 Holiday Gift Drive. Beginning November 13th to the 21st the organization will be collecting items to support their clients and their families. The Holiday Wish List, which you can find on their site, contains items most often required by clients during the holidays. These gifts will be distributed to their clients and their families before the holidays.
