Entering its 27th season as a varsity sport, the boys swim team is ready for another year of success. Head coach, Todd Sudol, has been involved in swimming for the majority of his life. He began coaching at HHS in 2000 and will enter his 20th season this year. Earning several awards during his own career, Sudol has much to teach his athletes. Hillsborough swim has a stellar reputation throughout the state. This year the team is looking forward to very competitive meets against Bridgewater-Raritan, Pingry, and Hunterdon Central.
This year, the boys swim team is looking to earn another state championship. Having seven Central Jersey State Championships under their belt, the boys are hungry for another title. The boys are aiming to add more awards to their several banners in the gymnasium. The seniors on the team are working hard to make one last impact on the program for their final season. Last season, Preet Patel earned the Somerset County “Scholar Athlete” Award, a prestigious award recognizing individual athletes for their performance in the water and classroom, and the NJSIAA State “Scholar Athlete” Award. They ended their season last year with an impressive record of 8-3. Last year the team has a 3.777 GPA average and received the NISCA Gold Team Scholar Award. This distinguished award goes to the top 100 swim teams with the highest GPA average nationwide.
Senior captains Alec Crouthamel, James McChesney, and Simon Jacob will lead a team composed of six seniors, four juniors, five sophomores, and three freshmen. When asked about the future of the team McChesney commented, “We lost a lot of fast swimmers from the past year, but we have started the season off strong.” The Raiders are currently 2-0 with two impressive wins against Phillipsburg and Watchung Hill.
