On Nov. 23, singer and songwriter Shawn Mendes released a Netflix documentary called Shawn Mendes: In Wonder, giving fans an insight into his life the past few years as he rose to fame.

Many of Mendes’s top hits are featured in the film from his past albums including “Ruin”, “Youth”, “In My Blood”, and more. He also gives fans a sneak peek at his new album titled Wonder which comes out on Dec. 4.

Throughout the film, fans see Mendes at his highest highs and lowest lows. The film gives details from Mendes himself about the thrill of performing and how much he loves his fans. He shows clips from his 2018 world tour where you can see him having the time of his life. He also shows fans that his life is not always perfect as he cries while sharing a story from his time in Brazil on his tour. After doing damage to his vocal cords, Mendes had to cancel his show in Brazil merely 30 minutes before the doors were supposed to open. Sometimes it is hard to believe celebrities are real people, but by sharing these stories Mendes can connect with his fans on a personal level as their idol instead of as a celebrity.

Mendes also spends some time during the film talking about his personal life with friends, family, and his girlfriend, fellow singer and songwriter Camila Cabello. After a lot of speculation and criticism was directed towards their relationship, it was nice for fans to be able to see Mendes truly happy despite people trying to tear him down. Mendes also visits home in the film, and tells his viewers stories of growing up in his old home as an aspiring musician.

Arguably the most vital part of the film, and biggest take away for fans, was when Mendes spoke about following his dreams and push forward no matter how many obstacles he faces.

“These next ten years are when everything I do is going full speed,” Mendes said. “It’s like an athlete in their prime. I have to keep going.”

Overall, this film is an exciting look into Mendes’s outlook on his career as a whole, and a message for his fans to always follow their dreams.
