The new drama TV series, Tiny Pretty Things, was released on Netflix on Dec. 14, and fans were quick to binge-watch the ten episode season. This book to show adaptation revolves around the lives of competitive ballet dancers at the prestigious Archer School of Ballet in Chicago. This elite program is for the best of the best and they are training their students to become the next generation of professional prima ballerinas around the world.

The school’s dark background only starts to be investigated when their star student, Cassie, mysteriously falls off the roof of their 4-story school building. Students and onlookers alike think it was no strange fall, but rather an attempted murder motivated by jealousy and a strong desire to be in the spotlight. The investigation is just the beginning of the school’s troubles once new student Neveah Stroyer joins the program. Besides her skills on the dance floor, Neveah does not stand for the wrongdoings of others, and demands justice when several issues arise within her new school’s walls. After having a rough childhood, this main character is determined to be a featured dancer and eventually reach her dream of dancing for a professional ballet company.

Any dance lover can appreciate this show’s honest depiction of the training it takes to make it as a professional dancer. The blood, sweat, and tears that go into this lifestyle are unlike any other and one must stick to an intense schedule to learn and grow daily. These actors do an excellent job of displaying how one’s emotions must be pushed to the sidelines in order to fly on stage.

From stereotypical mean girls, to self expression and love, this mysterious drama leaves viewers wondering what’s to come. The twists in these episodes ultimately show that “tiny pretty things” can also lead to big ugly ones.
