As of Feb. 2021, senior Danielle Dambrosio has committed to Florida Gulf Coast University as a Division I swimmer. Swimming has always always been a passion for Dambrosio and she is undoubtedly one of Hillsborough’s finest.

During the summer between her sophomore and junior year, she started the recruitment process. Talking to college coaches at meets and over the phone, many schools took interest in her. Even with many offers, she said that “FGCU was one of my top choices from the start”. Wanting to decide by herself, Dambrosio consulted other swimmers who have committed to colleges for tips and suggestions and ultimately decided that Florida Gulf Coast University was the best for her. Swimming for almost all of her life, she knew she was going to continue swimming in college as soon as she entered high school.

“I got into swimming when I was five years-old and my parents pushed me to be on a summer team, ” Dambrosio said. “Coach Adele, one of the high school coaches, gave me private lessons and I joined a club team at six years-old. It’s been a huge part of my life ever since I can remember.”

Even with this year’s pandemic, it has been hard to stop her improvement in the pool. She hopes to just make her senior swim season as fun as possible and is hoping she can encourage everyone to put forth their best efforts. To prepare for college, Dambrosio said she’d love to “swim some best times to feel more confident”. In light of her college preparation, her coaches and parents were there with her every step of the way.

“My parents and coaches have helped me get to be where I am today in the swimming world,” Dambrosio said. “My family has been there for support and my coaches have always believed in me pushing me to be the best.” Planning on majoring in Exercise Science, Dambrosio certainly has a bright athletic and academic path ahead of her.
