Raiders Baseball Stacks Second Win of the Season

The Raiders get back into the win column against the Ridge Red Devils.

Since their last win, the Raiders have struggled to get into a real groove this season, skidding to 1-10 on the season with Skylands opponent  Ridge on the horizon.  The Red Devils have certainly not had the season they have dreamed of, giving the Raiders an opportunity to earn their second W of the season.

With Senior Jayden Bloch on the mound, Hillsborough was able to keep this game under control the entire time.  One of the Raiders’ biggest troubles this season has been swinging the bats and getting on base. However, with Bloch starting, the Raiders kept it a nice low scoring affair, where they were able to capitalize multiple times against the Red Devils.

Sophomore Avery Whitney led the offense for the Raiders reaching home plate twice, with a stolen base and a hit to get the boys going.  Whitney has been one of the few bright spots for the Raiders this season, a young outfielder that could provide some future success for the Raiders in coming years.  Coach Augello certainly seems to have a plan for his squad.

Another shining star for Hillsborough vs Ridge, along with the entire season, has been junior catcher Justin Ciambrone.  Ciambrone took over for senior Jack Roteman, who suffered an injury forcing a move third base for the majority of the season, and has found a lot of success behind the plate and in the batter’s box.

“I think the team is more like a family,” Ciambrone said. “That’s what makes it so much fun.”

Seems like the boys are still in good spirits, and with States still in play for the Raiders following their win over Ridge, we’ll see if they can start to get a rhythm going for the rest of the season.
