Facing off against the 3-15 Phillipsburg Stateliners, a competitive matchup was ahead for the Hillsborough Raiders Varsity Baseball team on a very special day for the seniors.

With the season coming to a close, Hillsborough sits at 2-15, prior to the matchup against Phillipsburg, the boys had a chance to stack their 3rd win of the season.

On the mound for the Raiders was senior Vinny Versaci, who is committed to extend his baseball career at Arcadia University, and his performance this game was pretty evident why.

Versaci only allowed 3 hits in a full 7 innings with 7 strikeouts, letting one run in the 3rd inning.  If you’re Coach Augello, you can’t ask for much more than that from the senior pitcher.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for the Raiders, who struggled to get the bats going against Phillipsburg’s Matt Garatty who pitched a 2-hit shutout against Raiders, making the score a 1-0 loss.

Though, all in all, it’s been a good run for our Hillsborough High School seniors, despite the struggle of the 2021 season, the leadership and talent of the seniors is unmatched.

Hillsborough’s next home game is the final one of the season on Saturday, May 29 against Immaculata, where Hillsborough will try to beat their rivals and end the season on a positive note.
