Abandoned buildings, dark ominous hallways, demonic entities, evil rituals, blood, gore, mental breakdowns, paranoia, strange occurrences, and mind benders. “Smile 2” has them all. For anyone looking for a classic and terrifying horror movie, this is the one for them.
The newly released movie, “Smile 2,” is in theaters around the world as of October 18, 2024. After “Smile” received positive reviews from much of the public, the creators returned more than a year later to blow their audience away with an even scarier sequel.
From the beginning, the plotline focuses on the life of a modern day singer, Skye Riley, played by Naomi Scott who struggles with substance abuse, intense anxiety, and the pressure of high expectations. These central themes along with the realistic life of the main character enables the audience to relate to the movie in an uncanny fashion. Throughout the movie, viewers follow Skye’s life in the aftermath of a traumatic experience that leaves her scarred in more than one way. To make matters worse, Skye soon encounters a force that permanently changes her life and is the focus of the remainder of the movie.
The main actor, Naomi Scott, showcases her astonishing acting skills through the way she is able to embody fear in her body language, facial expressions, and actions. Not only does it appear that she is truly experiencing the events of the plot, but she causes viewers to believe they are too. Additionally, the movie contains numerous startling jump scares and one especially shocking plot twist. Overall, the movie is the perfect example of a psychological horror and leaves viewers stunned in disbelief as the credits begin rolling.
While violence is a part of a large majority of horror movies, it is important to note that this movie is almost as gory as it gets. With multiple shots depicting horrendous acts being committed to a numerous people in the movie, blood often floods the screen. Viewers that get uncomfortable at the sight of blood may wish to sit this one out, since it will be a tough watch.
As a horror movie lover, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film. I felt as though I was in the movie and constantly found myself on the edge of my seat. Even though I could sometimes see jumpscares coming, I found myself shocked at every one, which made the experience more than worthwhile for me. I also loved that this movie is available in practically every theater making it more than accessible at the cost of around 9-15 dollars. For other horror movies lovers who don’t mind the occasional gory scene, don’t miss “Smile 2” in theaters or check it out once it is released for home viewing.
