Students at HHS are all uniquely themselves. Some express themselves through the sports they play or the musicals they put on. Others express themselves more literally. Fashion trends have become one of the key aspects of the average student’s life, and it shows: Everybody is talking about the new shoes they bought or the cute shirt they found. Whenever a store comes out with new fashion trends, everyone pounces. Each year offers different trends and, especially this year, casual clothing is definitely back in style as sweats and UGGs become the norm.
All students have different styles of clothing, but one rule applies to everyone: Comfort is in. If you’re not comfortable, you can’t be fashionable. Junior Samantha Wiley exhibits this as she walks through the halls, expressing herself through her clothing choices. When asked what her favorite clothing store is, she responded confidently. “Garage, even though it’s pretty expensive,” Wiley said. She continued to express her love for the store by saying that she buys most of her favorite clothes from there, and that she would recommend it to everyone. When looking at Samantha’s style, you can tell she likes to be comfortable, but still show some class. Wiley’s go-to look would be pairing low rise jeans with Adidas Sambas.
Buying clothes doesn’t have to be just in-person. Shopping online is the new frontier of fashion clothes hunting because of how easy it is to purchase a new wardrobe. Many stores are starting to launch online versions of their shops. It can be very convenient for those who want clothes quickly, don’t feel like going to a store, or simply just like the atmosphere online. On that note, junior Aminah Robinson said that Edikted is her favorite online shop. “The prices are decently low for quality products and they have very cute and trendy clothes,” Robinson said. Robinson’s outfits are very unique and in style. She loves wearing her brown fur coat with stylish boots as she hangs out with her friends at lunch. Robinson gets her inspiration from the one and only Lexa Gates, a fashion icon. Checking out her instagram page would not be a mistake.
While HHS seems to be stuck on the comfort trend right now, trends are bound to change. Teachers have especially noticed this as sweatpants and hoodies have become the norm, rather than dressing up. “I think it’s like a cycle. I don’t think it has changed at all. I feel like the biggest change I see, and it’s very productive, is comfort has been given more predominance now than just looking very put together,” Mrs. Anjana Iyer, a science teacher said.
When searching for new clothes, these stores are the obvious places to go, according to HHS students: The Bridgewater Mall has Garage and other favorites to check out include Pacsun, Forever 21, and Hollister. So, finding something you like will ideally not be an issue. Of course, online shopping is an option as well. Finding clothes can be quick and easy with a simple click of a button. So, if you like being trendy (hint: comfy) and looking classy, these stores are the places to go.
