The Hillsborough Raider Baseball Team makes history with the first winning record since 2019, first state sectional championship win since 2012 and 3rd in the team’s history, and hosting a state semifinal game.
The Raiders currently hold a record of 14-10, posting their first winning record in six years.
“As a graduate of HHS and returning as a head coach, this moment is very special for me personally and our coaching staff. It is even more special for the players who have worked so hard to get to this moment, the training sessions they have attended, the sacrifices they have made and the time that goes into becoming a champion. This team and this Senior Class will be remembered forever!” said Head Coach Matthew Mosko.
After starting the season 5-1, the team hit a rough patch losing four straight games. But the team has overcome those loses to make it to the state tournament. Mosko added, “Our Senior leadership has really shown on this run in the state tournament. We have experienced players leading the way and playing to their potential. We do not have any Division 1 players on our roster, but we have a lot of very talented and fundamentally sound players. Baseball is a game of overcoming adversity, and while we have had a few low points this season, the players have not let that affect their attitudes or efforts at practice.”
Senior Brayden Fox said, “The season started out great then we hit a rough patch but we flipped the switch and now playing our best baseball.”
Reflecting on his time with Hillsborough Baseball, Senior Krish Patel said, “The way that the team has become a family. Everyone on this team wants to win for each other and not for themselves. Also the amount of energy that we bring as a team to these games is something that I haven’t seen in the past few years.”
The Raiders have defeated Freehold High School, Hunterdon Central High School, and Montgomery High School in order to win the Sectional Championship.
The Raiders took on Cherokee High School in the Semifinal round of the NJSIAA Group Tournament on Monday, June 9, marking the end of their season with a 11-0 score.
