Students and staff at the high school faced an internet outage this morning, disrupting learning during periods 1 and 2. Around 7:35 a.m. students and staff struggled to access Google Classroom or any online tools, experiencing constant buffering on their screens as sites failed to load. An announcement made a few minutes later confirmed that the internet in the building was down and that the technology department was working to resolve the issue.
All schools in the district were affected by the outage. The internet access was restored around 8:30 a.m., but went down again, for around 5 minutes at 9:15 a.m..
The outage affected teachers and students as they waited for resolution. “I was in my prep period and wasn’t able to do any work, couldn’t print worksheets, or access my email,” Ms. Maura O’Neill, an English teacher said.
Senior Inaaya Hussain reported similar concerns. “The internet outage was really odd. Nothing on my chromebook was working, and I wasn’t able to do any work,” she said.
Teachers affected by the outage adapted by distributing paper packets, using their cell phones as hotspots or having students read books. Courses less dependent on technology like Physical Education carried on with little disruption.
The technology department has not yet returned a request for comment.
