As the air slowly becomes crisp with a slight cold breeze, we can tell fall is coming. For many, the fall season represents warmth and comfort. Some may go to pumpkin patches or watch the leaves change colors and drop from the trees, but personally nothing beats staying home and watching fall shows and movies. I enjoy sitting on the couch, with my blanket, and hot latte. So grab your cozy things and settle in for my top five watches.
“Gilmore Girls”
My current re-watch is “Gilmore Girls,” which is celebrated as the best show to watch during fall. It’s known for its warm tone, small-town charm, and its setting in the time period of late ‘90s to early 2000s. Stars Hollow is the town where Rory and Lorelai Gilmore reside. The fictional town, Stars Hollow, gives New England vibes because it is influenced by the small town of Washington Depot, Connecticut. Lorelai, who is a single mother, ran away from her wealthy and strict parents at the age of 16. She started working at the Independence Inn as a maid, but worked her way up, bought a house, and became the manager. Rory, who is 15 at the beginning of the show, is an intelligent, introverted, and kind-hearted teen girl, whose ultimate goal is to succeed at her private school, Chilton, and go to Harvard. Despite Lorelai being a single mother and having a few financial issues, she made sure Rory lived to the fullest. The show also features cheerful and significant characters like Sookie, Michel, Miss Patty, Luke, and Babbet. And we can’t forget about Lorelai’s parents Richard and Emily Gilmore, who had their ups and downs with Lorelai, but adored Rory every time they saw her.
“When Harry Met Sally”
In the romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally,” the movie explores the question of if it’s possible for a man and woman to just be friends. The movie is known for its iconic setting of NYC autumn, where the leaves are crisp, which leaves a cozy and warm atmosphere for a fall movie night! Harry and Sally, who have a relationship longer than a decade, navigate life’s highs and lows, while repeatedly crossing paths. The movie is often praised for its witty lines along with its memorable dialogue. There is also a very realistic chemistry between the characters and shows a portrayal of relationships, which can be humorous and bittersweet. The blend of love and friendship has made this movie a timeless classic and still popular among the new generations of viewers.
“Friends”
Season 4 – Episode 8, Season 10 – Episode 8, Season 8 – Episode 9, Season 7 – Episode 8, Season 3 – Episode 9, Season 6 – Episode 9, Season 9 – Episode 8, Season 1 – Episode 9, Season 2 – Episode 8.
The popular show of laughter and drama, with a hint of comfort, is “Friends”. Some of the episodes listed above give the best NYC fall feeling, along with Thanksgiving and Halloween scenes. The show starts off with Monica, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe, Monica, Rachel and Ross. Personally, I love their Thanksgiving episodes, because of Monica’s desire to have a perfect dinner/celebration, Joey’s turkey head silliness, various thanksgiving flashbacks and more. There is one Thanksgiving episode per season except for two.
Halloween Watches
“The Addams Family”
The Addams Family are dark and wealthy, but their sinister relative, who is a con artist named Fester Addams, has a motive is to steal the family’s fortune. This movie is a Halloween classic, which is known for its dark, spooky, and gothic elements. The Addams family castle is filled with booby traps, a graveyard outside their house, and secret passages!. The family has an odd yet comedic daily routine, where the children play with guillotines and electric chairs, along with cultivating poisonous plants. Throughout the movie, the mansion and the family itself, maintains its spooky and mysterious vibe.
The “Scream” Movie Saga
Nothing beats watching the “Scream” movies on or around Halloween. The intense thriller, violence, and suspense, keep the audience on the edge of their seats the entire time. All the movies feature the three main characters, who have been through all the trauma and deaths in Woodsboro: Sidney Prescott, who is resilient and the main target of all the movies, sharp journalist Gale Weathers, and Sheriff’s Deputy, Dewey Riley. Additionally, with these characters, there are new suspects and victims along with a new Ghostface in every movie. In the later movies, there is also a new generation of teens who must confront the legacy of Ghostface. The “Scream” Movie saga is a big hit, and I never skip watching it every Halloween.
