The girls soccer teams over the past years have been doing fundraisers to raise money to support the program. All fall sports began after August 18, 2025, when tryouts took place during the last two weeks of summer, and so did the fundraising. So far soccer teams have fundraised at the Rotary Fair, using Shake-a-can, and at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Upcoming fundraisers include Double Good, Popcorn, and Cards For A Cause. The team also has some dine out fundraisers planned with local businesses where a portion of the day’s proceeds go to support the program. . The girls on the Freshman, JV, and Varsity team offer their time to help fundraise for their teams. With all these fundraisers, their goal amount is that they raise a minimum of $6,375. Jennifer Wilkee, one of the booster club members, the mother of the senior varsity captain Elizabeth Wilke, explained the fundraiser. “Community service is also a big part of what the booster club promotes and we want to show that the HHS Girls soccer team has leaders on and off the field. By participating in all four years of the program, seniors become eligible for a scholarship given by the booster club. Funds vary year to year based on the size of the graduating class as well as how well our fundraisers do throughout the season” Wilke said. Wilke also explained that fundraisers help cover families in need. Any families in need of assistance and cannot purchase something they need for the team, the booster club is here to help,” Wilke said.
According to Elizabeth Wilke, the girls team also has team bonding nights where the girls from each team come together to get to know their teammates better. Also, the booster club honors the seniors, they do a senior night game for all the seniors and the other girls from the lower grade get gifts for the seniors and decorate their cars or locker for them. Lastly, the booster club gives coaches appreciation gifts at the end of their season.
According to Athletics director Mike Davis, each team is supported through funds from the Board of Education. The projected budget for the girls soccer team is $38,089. These funds cover the costs of equipment, tournament entry fees, uniforms, officials, clock operator, uniforms every four years and coaching stipends.
The coaches for the three teams are Varsity coach Lennaert Bitter, JV Coach Katina Dekranis, and Freshman Coach Courtney Skikus.
Dekranis, a teacher at Auten road, explained the need for additional funds to be raised, “In the past, we have used the funds for new equipment. We got new backpacks, uniforms, and rain jackets for all of the players. We are able to get rid of some of the older stuff and have some newer equipment for everybody to use.”
The Booster club is staffed by players’ parents who donate their valuable time to help all the girls soccer teams get what they need. Becky Acuña-Diaz, the mother of sophomore varsity goalkeeper Ania Nevaeh Lopez-Acuna, explained further use of the funds including an athletic trainer for home games and practices. Funds also support extra recognition for the students. “Girls who are eligible to receive plaques and varsity letters are given those as well. We have a day of celebration for all our senior girls, we make their senior banners, decorate their cars, have treats and drinks for the families at the end of senior game and just much more. Any funds not used this season are carried on to the next, we can start off with a budget. We average 50-55 girls in the program a season to 15 seniors a year. Without the booster club and all their fundraising efforts none of the extras and what makes the high school soccer season such an incredible and unforgettable experience would be possible,” Acuña-Diaz said.
