Puerto Rican Superstar Bad Bunny has been officially announced as the headliner for the upcoming 2026 Superbowl LX halftime show on February 8, at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio or Bad Bunny has built a reputation around his Puerto Rican culture becoming a beloved artist globally. He became one of the few artists famously known for his biggest stage presence in American sports and entertainment, blending his latin-trap and reggaeton roots with global pop relevance. His music reached fans from Latin America to the US and internationally embracing fashion, unique styles breaking norms and inspiring people to be themselves. This would be Bad Bunny’s second time performing at the Superbowl, he had previously performed alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez as a special guest.
“I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy. Especialmente todos los Latinos y las Latinas del mundo entero y aquí de los Estados Unidos. Todas las personas de aquí que han trabajado para abrir puertas…” Bad Bunny said on Saturday Night Live in October 2025. “…If you didn’t understand what I just said. You have four months to learn,” he added.
The Superbowl’s halftime show draws, with no surprise, over 100 million viewers, offering artists with massive exposure and recognition. The selection of Bad Bunny signals that the NFL and its partners are embracing multilingual and multicultural audiences. Since Bad Bunny mainly performs in Spanish and has an audience of diverse backgrounds, it is a great opportunity for the NFL to grow bigger with new viewers and cultures.
In my opinion, Bad Bunny’s songs give clear messages about certain topics like love and loss, reminiscing memories or even about racial discrimination topics. My personal favorite song is ‘DTMF’ since it’s a song about nostalgia, regret and preserving memories with loved ones. The song explores Puerto Rican culture and gentrification which are a huge topic in Puerto Rico and in the US. Another personal favorite song is ‘Ojitos Lindos’ because of its melody and lyrics. It talks about joy and rebirth of newly found love. His connection to love makes the sound so beautiful.
Some figures have expressed disapproval of Bad Bunny’s political stances and advocacy for Latino’s rights, specifically his decision of not performing in the U.S due to his concerns of ICE raids targeting Latinos. His advocacy for Latinos have hugely become popular and for many, like I, he becomes a favorite artist. Nonetheless, he was selected to be the halftime performer, making a historic moment for Latino representation on one of the biggest and most viewed stages.
