When the weather cools down and leaves begin to fall, pumpkin spice season officially begins. Every year, both Dunkin’ and Starbucks bring back their popular fall drinks, and many students look forward to trying them. With both of these famous coffee chains that offer pumpkin-themed drinks, the question remains: which one does it best?
Both Dunkin’ and Starbucks offer their own take on pumpkin spice flavors. Starbucks is known for its warm, sweet, and cozy drinks, while Dunkin’ is recognized for its stronger pumpkin flavor and simpler taste.
Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte continues to be one of the most popular fall drinks. It is creamy, smooth, and filled with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Many people enjoy the balanced flavor that blends the pumpkin with sweetness. “Starbucks’ pumpkin drinks taste more balanced and have less of that strong pumpkin flavor to it,” said freshman Genevieve Pfeiffer. “It’s not too sweet while the drinks at Starbucks usually have more sugar.”
Dunkin’s fall drinks bring a different flavor experience. The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Dunkin has a bolder pumpkin taste and a lighter texture. “Dunkin’ has more of a pumpkin taste compared to Starbucks in their drinks,” said junior Sara Corgo.
Even though Dunkin’ offers a stronger pumpkin flavor, some believe Starbucks does better with flavor overall. “Overall, I do think Starbucks is better with the drinks when it comes to flavor in general,” said Corgo. “Their flavors just feel smoother and more put together.”
Others prefer Dunkin’ for its simplicity and lighter taste. “I think that Dunkin’ is still better because it isn’t as blunt as Starbucks,” said Pfeiffer. “Starbucks’ drinks can be really rich after a few sips, but Dunkin’ keeps it simple.”
Price also makes a difference. A medium Dunkin’ Pumpkin Spice Latte costs around $4, while a smaller Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is usually over $5. For students who stop for coffee before school, Dunkin’ is often seen as the more affordable choice.
Overall, both chains bring something unique to the table. Starbucks offers creamy well-balanced drinks that feel warm and comforting, while Dunkin’ provides stronger pumpkin flavor and a simpler taste at a lower price. No matter which one students choose, it’s clear that fall wouldn’t be the same without pumpkin spice.
