A museum, The Louvre, located in Paris, France was the victim of a theft worth 88 million euros equating to about $102 million on Sunday, Oct. 19. For this operation that took about seven minutes, the thieves entered through the south end of the Apollo Gallery using a stolen truck with an extendable ladder and power tools.
The thieves got away on scooters with eight priceless items. The items include an emerald necklace and set of earrings belonging to Empress Marie Louise and a pearl tiara, a diamond bow brooch, and the reliquary brooch all belonging to Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. Finally, a sapphire tiara necklace and single earring belonging to Queens Marie-Amelie and Hortense was also stolen.

Once the initial shock of the whole situation wore off, people seemed to share a similarly humorous view of the situation.
Art and Art History teacher Megan Jannone said, “Initially I was very shocked and also I didn’t believe it was real because’ you know, there’s a lot of fake articles online, and I was like ‘no way the Louvre actually got robbed’ because I thought it had such high security.”
Four men breaking into what was perceived to be one of the most secure museums was one thing, but them getting on motorbikes and dropping one of the items they had taken during their escape, while pulling all of this off in broad daylight is another kind of absurdity. And it seems as though most of social media agreed.
Quick to click the post button the public shared their bemused and humorous points of view through creating social media posts about the heist.
Tiktok seemed to be at the root of many of these comical posts. One of the themes among a variety of posts being people sharing a list of who they believed pulled off the heist. Some of the subjects include the penguins from “The Penguins of Madagascar,” Marv and Harry from the movie “Home Alone,” and even Doug Judy from the show “Brooklyn-99.”
