The freshman boys basketball team had their first game of the season on Dec. 13 against Somerville High School in the home gym and secured a 71-39 win. A fresh start has begun with the roster consisting of freshman Feroz Khan, Dalen Richardson, Logan Jankowicz, Jaquez Williams, Bennet Thomas, Thomas Daif, Sharvas Bhongir, Zylas Loniewski, and James Davis.
As the first quarter began, starting players Richardson, Thomas, Williams, Bhongir and Daif worked together by communicating and connecting their passes to each other. The team stood out by holding strong offensively. With a solid line up, Hillsborough was first on the scoreboard and took the lead in the first quarter.
Players shared their thoughts during and after the game. “I was thinking just about how we could win the game,” said Khan. “It felt normal because winning isn’t something we aren’t used to, but it’s still always good to win a game.”
Everyone was provided with an opportunity to give their part to the team by making shots, but the team commended Bhongir who made sure to leave his name on the record. He supported his team by being the top scorer throughout the game.
Throughout the game, the players went through several emotions. “All I want to do is win,” said Willams. With about 15 minutes left on the scoreboard the end of the game was nearing. Somerville kept their score close to Hillsborough who held onto the lead. The buzzer rang and the final score of 71-39 glowed from the board.
This team so far has a record of 10-2. They have had an impressive season so far and are determined to keep the positive momentum moving forward.
