This school year there has been a new addition into the cafeteria, Bloom energy drinks. Every morning there is a long line of students trying to get these drinks from the mini fridge. This addition has really brought joy to students of Hillsborough High School.
These drinks were introduced in July of 2024, and since then they have been going viral. They are sold at every store including Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, ShopRite and more. Now, this incoming school year, food services started selling them in the school for $4 in a mini fridge in the cafeteria. People argue that they have many health issues, but others think that there are benefits for students. Bloom energy drinks are a benefit in our district due to many factors.
Bloom has helped students get through rough mornings when all students want to do is sleep. These drinks improve students’ focus and mood. Not only would this be a benefit to students, but also to teachers. If students have energy throughout their classes this most likely means they pay attention in class and participate. Students paying attention and participating would help teachers not feel ignored like they may when students’ heads are down or when they’re distracted doing something else. If you look at any student in line at the cafeteria, at least half of them have an energy drink in their hands.
Furthermore, parents or other students might argue that these drinks are bad for our health, but according to the nutrition label, Bloom contains zero total sugars, and includes prebiotic fiber, lychee extract, and apple cider vinegar. All these things aren’t bad for you, especially when compared to the ingredients on a red bull can or a Celsius can. These are ingredients that won’t harm you as long as you drink the recommended amount indicated in the nutrition label. It’s understandable that people may not like the flavors, but those who do like it should be able to continue to buy them at the school and enjoy them. Bloom has not only added new options to the school drink menu, it has brought lots of happiness to students at school and the staff just by being offered in the cafeteria.
