The Hillsborough High School commons were transformed into a warm and cozy area Friday, Dec. 5 for their annual winter Coffee House, bringing together NAHS and Tri-M. This coffee house was centered around a Snoopy and Peanuts theme, showcasing the creative talents of the Art Honors Society. The Coffee House was an event which blended artists’ work from the school and live music from the student body. The event provided a platform for students whose work is often restricted to the classroom. The “Peanuts” theme was woven throughout the decor, providing a cohesive backdrop for the student pieces. The center of the commons hosted a steady lineup of musical artists. There were solo singers, duets, piano covers, and more.
Keeping the “Coffee House” theme NAHS and Tri-M provided students who attended with an array of refreshments including coffee. This encouraged students to grab food and drinks with their friends, and then sit and watch the performances.
“The diversity of the media was my favorite part, since there were a lot of different types of art forms,” Rebecca Anagnostis, a senior who attended Coffee House said. During the coffee house they switched between a musician and an artist flip-flopping the two. “I enjoyed how they didn’t just have all the musicians perform at once and then the artists. I like that they interchanged the two,” Anagnostis said.
The National Art Honor Society adviser Lauren Rudich shared one of the goals of the event. “Coffee House served as a way to examine an artist’s work, and validate their voice as an artist,” Rudich said.
As the evening came to an end many people left smiling. Attendees were also able to have portraits of themselves drawn in a “photobooth stand,” run by NAHS member Rio Quiampang. The Coffee House once again expertly showcased both artistic talent and musical talent. Students who enjoyed the coffee house or missed out but wanted to go, should be on the lookout for their second annual coffee house in May.
