2023 was Milkzy’s creative period, where he decided to expand from the materialistic world. Through the past three years, Milkzy has been a poetic icon since the 2020s and has been working on this new project to make it the best he can for his fans. For these reasons, fans have one question: Can this album show the growth of Milkzy or will it just be another album?
Devin Jones or Milkzy created “Floetry the Extension,” released on April 10, 2026, to be a continuation of his previous album Floetry, which dropped on Aug. 30, 2023. “Floetry the Extension” is filled with vivid storytelling mixed with cunning lyrics and smooth jazz beats. Using his past experiences, Milkzy expresses emotions of devotion, yearning, and self-doubt with problems like anxiety and romance. After 2023, Milkzy tried to incorporate more lyrical based music with jazzier beats like “The Cafe Closes at Nine” or “ A Woman Written by God.” Milkzy’s work on “Floetry the Extension” is a great example of expanding a world of hip hop. Milkzy’s strong suit has proven to be storytelling through his lyrics. Each song is like a separate story that listeners can immerse themselves in. Also, his collabs with artists like JR, another poetic rapper, also show his ability to blend artistic styles to create a singular track.
Another great aspect of Milkzy’s music is his relatability. Milky storytelling brings his songs to life and through other peoples lives too. In one of his songs,” Robin Hood of Joy,” Milkzy raps. “I don’t like your responses or even times you chose ’em/ Am I still dreaming for thinking that you’re one of a kind.” He uses words like dreaming and one of a kind to show his past experiences of romance and how he dealt with it. Even though the lyrics were well put, I felt some of the songs became repetitive.
Throughout the album, Milkzy plays it safe and keeps his slow-paced sound, not really experimenting with different elements of mixing and mastering. For example, when compressing the sound, he gave the beat a more loose feel, giving more emphasis to the lyrics. Although the beats have lots of experimentation, I would have liked to see more pitching or changing with his vocals, without changing his voice. Milkzy’s work on Floetry Extension was a great example of the continuously expanding world of hip-hop.
The best thing Milkzy did was his storytelling with his lyrics. Each song felt like a separate story that you could immerse yourself in. An example of storytelling is a well known single, “The Cafe Closes at Nine,” when Milkzy raps, “ The café closes at nine specifically 9:30 To 10 so I hope I get your name by then/ Or maybe instructions I don’t need to be instructed, but I hate that we did skip introductions.” Their use of rhythm and words blending to lyrics make him a unique artist in the mainstream game. His collabs with artists like JR also show how he can blend artistic styles to create a singular track.
Overall, “Floetry the Expansion” was a great way for Milkzy to show the whole world who he is as an artist. From the studio to the blueprint, Milkzy let his blood, sweat and soul into this album and the results back it up. I would highly recommend this album to any avid music listener and lyrical rap lover. If you want to listen on your own, you can find the album on all streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, or Pandora.
