Soundtrack of the season
December 2, 2015
The month of December is dedicated to one of everyone’s favorite holidays: Christmas. For some people, Christmas is simply a day for presents. But for others, there is one element of the holiday that is enjoyed by many throughout the whole month–Christmas music.
There are many ways to celebrate Christmas, whether it be exchanging gifts with your family and friends, going caroling out in the snow, or even watching Christmas movies. But one of the best ways to celebrate the holiday is by listening to the numerous Christmas songs produced and recorded every year. So make some hot chocolate and grab a buddy, because you’re going to want to spend some time listening to these awesome tracks.
If you’re in the mood for classics, no one does the holidays better than old favorites Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. The two artists have recorded holiday favorites such as Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, White Christmas, Jingle Bells, and O Little Town of Bethlehem.
Crosby’s White Christmas is perhaps the most well-known recording of the song. It is no doubt an all-time Christmas favorite. Other artists like Dean Martin, Eartha Kitt, Gene Autry, and Andy Williams have contributed songs that have made them holiday icons. A Marshmallow World, Santa Baby, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year all sound better when sang by such classic performers.
Songs of the season also include odes to Hanukkah. Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel is one of, if not the most well-known and loved Hanukkah song. If you prefer to listen to something that might be more entertaining and humorous, Adam Sandler’s Hanukkah Song is one that is enjoyed by many during the holiday season.
If classics are maybe not your favorite, there are other, more modern artists that perform some of the most well-loved Christmas songs. Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You is probably one of her most beloved songs and for the last 22 years it has been a holiday favorite that has topped the charts many times.
Michael Bublé has monopolized Christmas music over the last few years and is now one of the main performers of holiday songs. Bublé has covered many songs including The Christmas Song, It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas, and Silent Night. Recently, many artists such as Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, and Kelly Clarkson have also gotten into the holiday spirit by releasing their own modern versions of these songs.
If you’re in the mood for a new tradition, you might opt to start listening to some festive jams, both old and new to get you and your friends into the warm spirit of the holidays.
