Hoisting a banner in the school gym is an honor that shows personal achievements and team success. These banners stay in the Hillsborough High School gym forever and the students with their names on them will also be remembered for their success.

What if I told you Julieyanna Parker has her name on eight banners up in the gym and she just started her senior season?

In 2013, Parker, when just a freshman, and her teammates took the state tournament by storm winning the 200 and 400 meter free relays.

In 2014, Parker entered her sophomore year looking for something more than just a free relay championship. The butterfly swimming technique is one of the hardest to swim, but it just so happens to be Parker’s specialty.

“I practiced harder than anyone,” Parker said. “I practiced my kicks underwater and got faster.”

That year Parker won her first 100 yard butterfly making her the best in the state.

Along with her personal achievement in her sophomore year, Parker once again helped the team win the 200 and 400 meter free relay.

In the 2015 season, she set more goals for herself.

“I wanted to become a leader for my team and accomplish more than I did last year,” Parker said.

Once again, Parker won her solo butterfly 100 meter race making her the best butterfly swimmer in the state. To add to that she also aided the team to a three-peat in the 200 and 400 meter free relay.

With eight banners in total , we expect big things from Parker in her senior year.

“Its been a goal of ours to go undefeated since we were freshmen,” Parker said. “I believe this is the year that we go undefeated.”
