After the blizzard enveloping much of the region in late January, many HHS students could not wait to get outside and enjoy the perks of cold snow. Skiing and snowboarding are just two activities to enjoy in the snow, and they are available to students that are a part of Hillsborough High School’s Ski and Snowboard Club.

The club is advised by Spanish teacher and skier Nicole Moretti, with the help of mathematics teacher Brandon Wiater, history teacher Robert Herman, Spanish teacher Paola Kornspan, and middle school teacher Thomas Sharples.

The Ski and Snowboard Club gives students an opportunity to ski and snowboard regardless of their skill level. With a lift ticket, lessons are provided for beginners, and experienced skiers or snowboarders can shred the slopes on their own. Equipment can be rented or brought from home.

The day of trips is very exciting for members of the club. Equipment is dropped off before school, and at the end of the school day, a charter bus takes the students to Mountain Creek. At the mountain, club members have the opportunity to ski, snowboard, eat dinner, take lessons, and much more, all while socializing with friends. The Ski and Snowboard Club stays at the mountain almost until it closes.

Moretti, an avid skier herself, was the individual who pioneered the club 9 years ago.

“The club formed about 8-9 years ago when I had wanted to see if their was interest,” Moretti said. “The first year we didn’t have that many students but the kids had fun. It has grown since then. There were multiple years that we even had two buses of students.”

The club takes four trips throughout the winter, with all of them occurring on Fridays after school.

So, if you are interested in a fun winter activity, consider making HHS’s Ski and Snowboard Club in your future.
