Many of us hip-hop lovers hate the music of 2016.  Personally, I feel too many in the hip-hop community are simply out to get rich by making a trap beat and having MIGOS ATL featured on the song.  But the most hated and most liked rapper today is the controversial Young Thug, aka Thugger Thugger, aka Slime aka Mozart.

At first, when I heard of Young Thug I seriously thought it was a complete joke that Birdman was using to market his music.  If you’ve heard Birdman’s “Lifestyle” you’d think the same.  Slowly, however, as I ventured into his music I realized Young Thug is a genius.

Yes, most of his songs are auto-tuned to the max but his ad-libs are some of the best in the game.  For instance, the songs “Blanguage” and “With that” are filled with extensive ad-libs about the rapper’s life and aspirations.  Young Thug is a talented artist.

But why so much hate?  Perhaps it is because Young Thug is himself to the absolute max.  This grown man wears clothes made for women, obviously a bold choice in the hypermasculine world of hip-hop.  Nothing stops Thugger from rocking a girl’s Gucci jacket with his spray-paint, tight paint and the style of his songs show it.  The conventional rapper will rock baggy pants and look ghetto, while Young Thug will outshine them by dressing as an old lady.  He is pretty wild and I cannot get enough of his radical art.

Not only is his choice of clothes unconventional but his work ethic is out of this world.  In the last 10 months Young Thug has dropped four music projects is slated to release the highly anticipated Slime Season 3 this year.  If Young Thug isn’t performing live, he is in the lab recording hits with the help of Metro Boomin (“He always wants mo”).  No music artist in any genre is dropping possibly five projects in a year’s time.  In today’s complicated music world run by big corporate companies, it seems borderline illegal what Young Thug is doing, but it is clearly separating him from all the other powerhouse rappers.

This is the year of Young Thug and it is only February.  Sooner or later the world will be covered in Slime, embrace it!
