The hockey season, one filled with ups and downs, has officially come to a close. Overall, the team finished the year with a 8-15-1 record, and a 6-9 conference record.

The team was largely led by a strong senior class. Leading the team in goals was David Ely with 9, and Nicholas Volonnino with 7. Greg Bowers who had 6, completed the top-three goalscorers this season, but was also tied for first with Ely for points at 17.

In addition to the senior production, there was a strong supporting cast of underclassmen. Nick Palmer, Alex MacPhee, and Dom Mazzaferro were a couple of players who proved essential to the team.

The team should be well off next year with the underclassmen mentioned above expected to return to the ice, but will definitely miss the impact the seniors made. A total of nine players are graduating this year, which leaves a lot of skates to be filled.

“The team should be just as good next year,” sophomore Daniel Volonnino said. “The senior production will be very tough to replicate, but I have faith in this team to do just as well as we did this year.”

The goalies were a bright spot on the team this year, as senior Marty Paro was the usual man between the pipes. He faced a total of 619 shots and only let up 51 goals with a save percentage of .921. He faced a little injury trouble in the middle of the year, but he didn’t miss a beat when he returned to the ice. Filling in was junior Mike Ricciardi and Daniel Volonnino, who combined to fill the void in Paro’s absence.

The best moment from the year, was the game against Montgomery. In front of a packed crowd, the team pulled out a 3-2 victory and sent our fans home happy.

The 2015-2016 Hockey season was a roller coaster ride from the very beginning. There were some thrilling wins and truly devastating losses, and while they didn’t make the playoffs, this season was one that the guys on the team won’t ever forget.
