For the first time ever, girls volleyball beat North Hunterdon. Three intense sets were played, the final set coming down to a score of 25-23.

Starting the season off strong, the team got a well-deserved taste of victory. Following a taxing week of practice, the girls went into the game with high confidence that their hard work would pay off.

Senior Natalie Minter said the team’s morale was high leading up to the game.

“I felt pretty confident going into the game,” Minter said.  “Our team has such good chemistry.” The chemistry Minter mentions is clear to see on the court, from the communication while playing, to the celebration after a successful play.

“I was pretty confident but also nervous, we had a great week of practice prior to the game and I knew if we worked hard we could beat them,” junior Hannah Otto said.

The game itself was thrilling to both players and spectators, thanks to the large turnout of Boro Superfans. The entire crowd was decked out in red, white, and blue for the game’s American theme, and their enthusiasm served to give the team even more confidence.

Following the win, the entire team was ecstatic. Senior Izzy Gonzalez said how satisfying it was to beat North Hunterdon for the first time in Girl’s Volleyball history.

“It was so amazing,” Gonzalez said. “We’ve always been close to beating them before but never have. It was such a rush.”

Coming off of this victory, the team still has a long season ahead of them. One of the biggest goals for the girls is to finally have a banner hanging in the gym.

The team has already played Hopewell Valley in addition to North Hunterdon, so their biggest games are still ahead of them. The entire team agrees that Bridgewater will be their biggest competition of the season, so they will without a doubt put in the work to beat them. Hillsborough will take on the Panthers at home on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 5:00 p.m., and they expect a large crowd to be there for encouragement.

After beginning the season with two strong victories, the girls are hopeful for a successful season. Specifically, senior Marisa Mazuera feels positive about her final year.

“I feel confident that this will be a good season,” Mazuera said. “Starting off strong sets a good tone for the season.”

With a historic win already under their belts, the team will no doubt go on to big things this year.
