After weeks of practicing day after day during preseason, our school’s reputable football team is finally performing under the lights for all to watch on Friday nights.

“Our guys are really ready to go,” head coach Kevin Carty said.  “We have as much talent as we’ve had in the past. I have a very good feeling about this season.”

This year, the boys hope to continue the success of last year.  Beating Hunterdon Central week three of the season 42-0, which made for Central’s biggest loss in years.  This was a huge win for Boro, and the type of thing the boys strive to do this year.

Despite the losses of many key senior players from last year’s lineup, this years seniors are ready to follow in the footsteps of their old teammates.

Vital linemen including Brandon Nitschke, Nick Pezza, Collin Purdy and Jacob Lubas should play a huge role in the team’s success.  Senior receiver Luke Jansen, quarterback Joe Shultz, Kyle Kauffman at running back, along with the help of underclassmen Jackson Parham, Jack Edwards, Charles Amankwa, JR Matallo, and Ryan Wheaton are expected to do big things on the field this season.

“Between our hard work, speed, and experience that was portrayed in the first game against Elizabeth, it put us off to a great start, and I hope this keeps going throughout the season,” Carty said.

After the season-opening, 27-0 win over Elizabeth, the Raiders dropped their home-opener to Bridgewater-Raritan.  Looming on the schedule are Ridge and Philipsburg, two teams the Raiders will look to defeat after the loss to the Panthers.

The boys are determined to meet their goals by winning as many games as possible, aiming to win their league, go as far as possible into the playoffs, and hopefully win the State Championship.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this season and I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys to go into it with,” Pezza said.  “I have a feeling that this is going to be a season I’ll never forget.”

Building up the overall depth of the team is going to be a huge part of the season.  Carty looks to prepare more and more players to be ready and confident to play on the field when it comes their time.

“Hopefully Hillsborough has room in their trophy rack, because Boro football is about to bring home a huge trophy this year,” super-fan Chris Haber said.
