Last Friday, Sept. 23, adrenaline was sky high for all football players.  After an unfortunate loss against Bridgewater-Raritan the previous week, the football team rebounded with a dominant performance against Plainfield to earn a 35-0 victory and improve to 2-1 on the season.

“Our win over Plainfield wasn’t as easy as it may have seemed,” senior Luke Jansen said.  “The preparation and hard work we put in during the week really shows how we can dominate a team.”

Having a strong start to the game, getting to the five yard line within a few plays, and a stalwart defense was key to this game. Two huge first quarter touchdowns got the boys off to a quick start.

Matt Moore connected with Jansen via a 30-yard pass play to set up a touchdown by junior Tyler Boatwright.  Boatwright soon had another touchdown run, securing what would prove to be an early, insurmountable lead.  Moore later threw two touchdown passes, one to junior Jackson Parham, and another to senior Jake Pollak.

“In our game both the offense and defense both played really well and everything seemed to click for us,” Moore said.  “It was a great team win and showed us the potential we have.”

By halftime, the boys were feeling good, however, head coach Kevin Carty knew how to keep the team focused and made sure the squad didn’t get too cocky.

“In order to keep the guys’ heads in the game, we try to make sure they know how every play is so important,” Cary said. “Because of the physicality of football, if you take one play off, even if you’re winning, you could still hurt yourself.”

Carty and the boys are more than ready to take on Phillipsburg tonight on our own turf.  High morale from last week’s game sticks with the team, hopefully leading the squad to yet another win.  Come out and support the boys tonight, at 7:00 p.m., and welcome to the jungle Raiders!
