The Somerset County Tournament is in full swing. The seeding for the tournament occurred last week, and Hillsborough was named the No. 7 seed. The Somerset County Tournament spans from Oct. 1-22.

The first round of the tournament was played on Saturday, when Hillsborough hosted Mount St. Mary, the No. 10 seed. The game resulted in a 4 – 0 win for Hillsborough, and the team advanced to the next round of the tournament.

Some notable players of the game include senior Lisa Myers, who had both a goal and an assist, senior Kate Donnelly, who scored a goal, freshman Payton Altman, who had an assist, and senior Dakota Seidel, who scored twice.

The next round of the tournament occurs this Saturday, when Hillsborough faces off against the No. 2 seed, Pingry. This upcoming game will be challenging for Hillsborough, but it is possible for the Raiders to come out with a win. The team recently played Pingry, where they lost by only a goal, meaning that it should be an interesting match-up.

Come support the field hockey team when they battle Pingry at 2:00 p.m. in hopes to continue their tournament play.

Although the tournament has started, the field hockey team is still continuing with their regular season play. Later this week, Hillsborough will be playing North Hunterdon.

North Hunterdon has lost each of their nine games, which means that Hillsborough should be able to come away with the win. Although it may seem as if the win is able to come easily to Hillsborough based on North Hunterdon’s record, they should not count North Hunterdon out; Hillsborough should be confident, but work hard in order to secure the win.

Hillsborough’s regular season play will continue on Oct. 5 at 3:45 p.m. at North Hunterdon.

“It’s important that we continue to communicate on and off the field and apply the drills we do at practice during the game,” Seidel said.
