Varsity football players snatched yet another big win last Friday against Philipsburg.  Making this the boys second week in a row defeating their opponents, the team is feeling better than ever.

“The boys realize what our overall goals are,” head coach Kevin Carty said.  “While every win is vital, we can’t act like we’ve won everything after a victory.  In order to take advantage of what we gained the last week, we really need to get to work and get it done the next too.”

Similar to playing against Plainfield, the team got off on just the right foot within the first few minutes of the game.  Early on in the game with a score of 0-0, senior Greg Alboum blocked a punt, then recovered the ball on the four yard line.  Plays like this are essential, getting the boys set in potential scoring position.

Quarterback Matt Moore threw a touchdown pass to David Amankwa, putting the Raiders in the lead. Following this, junior Charles Amankwa blocked another punt, with Jack Edwards recovering the ball, and running it into the end zone.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Tyler Boatwright scampered for an 80 yard touch down run, putting separation between the Raiders and Philipsburg. By the end of the fourth, senior Kyle Kauffman scored on a 48-yard play

“Our defense as a whole was very very good,” Carty said. “Looking forward to next week, we need to keep as balanced as we’ve been.”

Raider defense has a big game to look forward to tonight against Ridge. Ridge’s style of offense is quite different compared to most other teams faced in the past and should pose some problems for the team.

Come out tonight to watch the boys play against Ridge, and keep our fan section as strong as ever!
