The Raiders played a tough game against Hunterdon-Central, fighting it out until the very end despite losing 17-16.  The boys started off on a strong foot with big runs, a touchdown pass from Matt Moore to Jackson Parham, David Amankwaa’s safety, and a second half touchdown drive, which ended with a touchdown pass from Moore to Jake Pollak, to give the Raiders the lead for some time.

“It’s rare that a game ends on such a controversial play, and in the NFL we have replay to look at those things, but here we really don’t,” head coach Kevin Carty said.  “I could see people being upset, but whatever the ref’s call it, it is what it is.”

Carty acknowledges the accomplishment of his players being able to get in such a great position to score, however sometimes plays simply don’t turn out in the hoped-for way. Carty stresses the importance of  learning from this particular outcome and moving forward to the next game.

Carty was able to go back and watch the film of this particular play, and says that the play was so close he couldn’t even tell himself whether the play was in or not.

“Coach Carty believed we could win on a long ball so he went for a shot to win the game, and the refs simply made a controversial call,” junior Noah Quick said.

This week, the boys play at home for the second week in a row and will host North Hunterdon for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.  Hunterdon has a record of 4-2 and brings an offensive not afraid to put points on the scoreboard.  The boys are anticipating playing against North Hunterdon’s strong quarterback, who is notorious for throwing and running well.

Come out this Friday night to cheer on and watch the boys play against North Hunterdon!
