Soccer Team’s Dodgeball Tournament Supports Hillsborough Food Pantry
November 3, 2016
This past weekend, the annual Dodgeball Tournament held by the Boys Soccer team took place in the high school gym. Sixteen teams faced off in a charity tournament. Each team was made up of 6-8 students who competed for the title of Dodgeball Champion. This is the 8th year the tournament has been organized by the boys soccer teamwith all the proceeds going to the Hillsborough Food Pantry.
The Hillsborough Food Pantry is an important part of our community that assists local families in their time of need. Money raised by the tournament is donated and used to purchase canned goods, over the counter medications, and other supplies to help people in the midst of a financial crisis. The Dodgeball Tournament is a great way to give back.
The event is a fun-filled way to raise money for a great local cause.
“It’s the perfect mix of kids having fun yet being competitive at the same time, and this year was a huge success,” senior Danny Kozimbo said.
Sophomore Jack Renz echoed the sentiments of Kozimbo.
“I have taken part in this charity tournament for the past two years,” Renz said. “I have had so much fun competing with my friends and raising money for a great purpose.”
Bringing students from all grades together for an enjoyable time is also part of what makes this an awesome experience. There is no limit to the creativity of teams in their names or t-shirt designs. First place winners, “Average Track Joe’s” took a spin on the the “Average Joe’s” dodgeball team from the distinguished comedy film Dodgeball starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller.
Many other teams had funny or original names that added to the entertainment of the day even more. Among the more creative names were Daj Maball, Better Call Ball, All Dodge No Balls, and The Dodgefathers.
The Boy’s Soccer Dodgeball Tournament continues to be a great fundraiser and a good way to have some fun and get active.
