As we dive deeper into the winter season, many of the high school’s best sports teams are actually coming out of hibernation. Hillsborough’s girls swim team, for example, is back and as ready as ever to take on the new year.

Although the team lost a few great swimmers who graduated such as Jules Parker, a three-time State Champion in the 100 yard butterfly, and Stephanie Mauer, a great distance freestyler, the team is fully prepared to take on its toughest competitors, namely Montgomery and Bridgewater.

Senior Megan Bull is one of the team’s best swimmers. She dominates the 200 yard distance freestyle, the 100 yard breaststroke, and is key in the team’s relays. Bull will continue her swimming career at William & Mary. Junior Alex Temple is also another key component to the team as she has won the 100 yard backstroke and other freestyle events.

Bull also leads the team along with seniors Alyssa Cseh and Amanda Simon as team captains.

This season, many freshmen have come in and joined the team. A lot of new swimmers may seem like a bit of step back because they’re not as experienced as the older girls, but everyone is up for the task. Many of the returning swimmers are also stepping up to fill the events, which for some is new and exciting.

“I really enjoy the atmosphere the girls have created this year,” Bull said. “Everyone is happy to be here.”

As the girls take on their new season, everyone should come out and support one of the best and most underappreciated teams at HHS.
