La La Land is a whimsical delight
January 3, 2017
Already nominated for seven Golden Globes, and expected to be nominated for a vast number of Academy Awards, La La Land premiered in early December.
Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, this whimsical musical proved entertaining to all. La La Land takes place in Hollywood, California, following the stories of aspiring actress Mia (Stone) and jazz musician Sebastian (Gosling).
Mia and Sebastian are both struggling to find success in their fields, and they face tough decisions regarding their careers and their love.
What makes La La Land so unique is its use of music and singing. The opening scene of the film is a musical number, spanning the length of a Los Angeles highway.
Composer Justin Hurwitz did a brilliant job composing the music for the film. His work was nominated for two Golden Globes, including Best Original Song and Best Original Score
La La Land was directed by Damien Chazelle, who also directed the 2014 hit Whiplash.
Overall, Stone and Gosling’s masterful performances helped catapult La La Land into a fun, creative, entertaining movie that is worthy of awards.
