Fort Lauderdale attacker kills five and wounds eight
January 9, 2017
Tragedy struck Fort Lauderdale and all across America on Friday when a horrific attack took five lives, and injured at least eight individuals at the city’s international airport.
The alleged suspect is 26-year old Esteban Santiago, a native of Alaska.
Santiago is an ex-veteran, having served in the Puerto Rican National Guard, fought in Iraq, and later servied in the Alaskan National Guard. His total military experience adds up to about ten years.
Currently, no motive has been determined for Santiago’s attack, as authorities are amidst investigation. Reports do claim that Santiago suffered from mental health issues.
Many people are questioning how exactly Santiago managed to bring a gun into the airport, but it turns out that bringing a firearm is legal, as long as it meets certain regulations.
Following the attack, President-elect Donald Trump weighed in on the situation.
“Monitoring the terrible situation in Florida,” Trump said in a tweet. “Just spoke to Governor Scott. Thoughts and prayers for all. Stay safe!”
Trump is referring to Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who also shared his thoughts.
““It’s horrible what happened here,” Scott said. “It’s not time to be political. It’s a time to mourn those that lost their life, finish an investigation, and pray for everybody who is still fighting for their life.”
