At this point in the young season, the wrestling team currently has a dual meet record of 3-4 and a 3rd place finish at the East Brunswick Bear Invitational.

Head coach Ronald Dolenti expected to be right around .500 this far into the season, and knows what needs to be done in order to get the boys where they need to be to compete in upcoming competitions.

“The season will have its share of adversity, however, as it nears the close in February, with the start of the postseason, that is when you want to be doing your best wrestling of the season,” Dolenti said.

The boys aspire to keep improving week after week as the season glides by. Every day the boys practice, watch tapes, and train to keep improving their individual performances.  Now that the team is starting to face tougher opponents with more talent than ever, the amount of work put in each and every day is endless.

“We have been working a lot harder during practice pushing each other as much as we can, getting ready for counties, districts, regions, and hopefully state’s,” junior Kevin Faulkner said. “Personally, I’ve been working harder every day with my partner Mike Dooley to see champions out of us both in the future for my team and me.”

Key wrestlers who have performed especially well so far include juniors Faulkner, Anthony Donnadio and Michael Dooley, and senior Josh Villa.

“I have a lot of expectations of myself as a coach for the future of the program,” Dolenti said.  “My goal to is to make the program a bastion of outstanding wrestling that produces champions both on and off the mat.”
