The night concluded with the reveal of the winner of Best Picture. Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway reunited on stage to present Moonlight with Best Picture; however, there was a mishap with the envelopes and Beatty and Dunaway were handed the wrong one.

Dunaway called out La La Land by mistake, causing everyone to rush to the stage. It wasn’t until after the whole cast and crew were already on stage that the mistake was corrected. Everyone on stage and in the audience was in shock that the Academy could make such a careless error.
