Lady Raiders Softball Team Seeks First Win
April 19, 2017
As winter has come to an end, and the weather has gotten warmer, the softball season has begun. Last year, Lady Raiders Softball had a winning record of 15 wins and 10 losses. Five seniors that contributed greatly to the team graduated last year, which has left a few open roster spots for head coach Sheryl Iaione to fill.
Although five experienced players were lost, the other returning varsity players will contribute their experience and provide leadership to the team in order to lead them to success this season. Along with the returning varsity players, there are freshmen that will also help to add to the team’s success.
“The newcomers this year will provide added depth at several positions, and even though they are inexperienced, I expect them all to contribute to the team in big ways,” Iaione said.
Furthermore, Iaione feels as if a strength of the team includes the players who are experienced in multiple positions, which gives the team many options and depth.
On the other hand, a weakness of the team is that they are inexperienced at key positions. Although this may be true, Iaione feels that the team will be able to overcome this obstacle as they are very talented overall, which helps them to compete with the numerous tough teams on their schedule this year.
“My goal for this team is for them to work hard, play together, and compete to the best of their ability every day; if we do those things, we will accomplish great things,” Iaione said.
With that being said, Iaione’s goals will be followed by the team throughout their season as they work to improve their 0-5 record after suffering losses to Hunterdon Central, Ridge, Delaware Valley, Cedar Grove, and Bridgewater.
The Lady Raiders have a couple games coming up this week. Today, the Lady Raiders will host Montgomery for a 3:45 p.m. meeting. The Cougars are currently undefeated with a record of 7-0. On Thursday, the Lady Raiders have an away game at 3:45 p.m. against Warren Hills, who are currently 1-6.
