The girl’s lacrosse team mounted an epic comeback Monday, which culminated with a 12-11 Hillsborough victory in the team’s first game of the county tournament.

Down 9-5 at halftime, the third seeded girls came out strong to begin the second half against a Mount St. Mary team seeded sixth.

Despite a strong comeback, the team was still down 11-9 with only 1:13 remaining in regulation. Two quick scores, including the game-tying goal by junior Sara Coutts, would send the game to overtime tied at 11.

After winning the overtime faceoff,  junior Olivia Buckman scored less than a minute into the sudden-death overtime period to clinch a 12-11 raider victory.

Buckman led the team with four goals, followed by Coutts and senior Sarah Spence with two apiece. Seniors Sam Marsh and Lauryn Yaskowski and sophomores Lisa Ross and Gabriella Vangeli each chipped in with one goal.

Tomorrow, the girls will take on Bernards in the conference semifinal, as the raiders hope to defeat the team that handed the girls one of their only two losses on the season.
