Starting her 18th year with Boro Gymnastics, with a 4-0 record, head coach Elizabeth Murrin is seeking to lead her team of exceptional gymnasts to an undefeated season.

The Hillsborough gymnastics program is filled with many talented athletes in all grades giving the team more depth than previous years.

“We have a ton of depth within the team so we are very lucky in that way,” Murrin said. “We are a deeper and more talented team this year giving us a higher scoring potential.”

At the opening meet of the season, the remarkable team opened with a score of 110.45, comparing to last year’s max score overall of a 110.85. For those who are not familiar with gymnastics, starting with a score that close to last year’s max score is a great starting point.

Talent varies from the seniors to the freshmen, however most impressively, freshman Jocelyn Moore is paving her way to the top with her unsurpassed skill level. Moore achieved a score of 9.75 out of 10 on vault in the first gymnastics meet of the season.

While the team lost Kira Solt, a very strong competitor, the addition of Moore and the other talent this year makes the goal of the fourth consecutive undefeated season highly achievable.

Being that Murrin was a gymnast in high school, she values her team tremendously and brings many lessons and knowledge to the squad. Murrin explains how high school gymnastics is a chance to teach the sport from a team perspective rather than individually.

“I work hard to enforce the importance of team energy and chemistry because it is important for those girls to have that to be successful as a team and in life,” Murrin said. “The feeling I get from coaching this sport is unexplainable which is why I have been in the game for so long.”

With an undefeated record so far, the Raiders seek to defeat their next opponent, North Hunterdon, on Sept. 27.
