Dodgeball Tournament sparks friendly competition and helps those in need
November 2, 2017
On Oct. 29, boys soccer team hosted its annual Dodgeball Tournament charity event. This year, the tournament fielded almost 20 teams.
While it is a fundraiser and no team wins a prize, the tournament is extremely competitive. The bleachers, filled with sidelined teams, parents and other spectators generates a lot of excitement.
In addition, the tournament is double elimination and each team has six players. The only thing different about the semifinals and championship is that those rounds are best two out of three.
Of course, only one team could win the tournament, and for the second consecutive year the Average Track Joes took home the title. The team, comprised of players Noah Quick, Sean Jackson, Matt Kuc, Michael Shokoff, Taylor Raghunath, and Raphael George and coached by Alex Cole, put on a clinic, going undefeated throughout the tournament.
With the combination of canned food donations, the concession stand, and of course the entry fees for teams, the tournament raised over $500.
“The event was a success,” soccer coach Eric Puma said. “I liked seeing the soccer team organize the event, and I loved to see the student body participate. It was a feel good event where students had fun and we helped people in need.”
