From receiving rave reviews, to becoming “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 100%, there is no doubt that Lady Bird is a movie that everyone should see while they have the chance.

Lady Bird, directed by Greta Gerwig, has a notable cast that includes Saoirse Ronan as Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson, Beanie Feldstein as Julie Steffans, Timothée Chalamet as Kyle Scheible, Laurie Metcalf as Mrs.Mcpherson, Tracy Letts as Mr.Mcpherson, and Lucas Hedges as Danny O’Neill.

Lady Bird is a coming of age story about a 17-year-old girl named Christine, who calls herself “Lady Bird”, living in Sacramento, CA. Suffocated by the walls of her catholic high school, and California’s state borders, Lady Bird desires to experience something more exciting in her life; this leads to her wanting to travel across the country for college. Her big dreams are not able to be supported by her unfortunate realities as she does not have the grades, money, or her mother’s approval to do so; despite these factors, Lady Bird applies anyway with the support of her father.

Along with educational problems, Lady Bird suffers through many social dilemmas throughout the film. Lady Bird starts off as a theater kid, starring in the school musical with her best friend, Julie. She then acquires a boyfriend named Danny, who also happens to be the lead in the musical. Her life seems to be going great until her relationship with Danny has an abrupt end that devastates Lady Bird. She gets through the break up with the support of her best friend Julie, but her life then takes a turn as she takes interest in Kyle Shieble; he is Danny’s polar opposite as he is a pretentious, mysterious boy in a rock band.

As she becomes romantically involved with Kyle, Lady Bird drifts from her friendship with Julie, and becomes much closer with Jenna, the most popular girl in school, as she pretends to be somebody she’s not. Weeks of dating Kyle, and hanging around with the popular crowd, come to a stop on prom night as Lady Bird comes to her senses, deciding to return to Julie’s side. After that, her life begins to return to normal as she gets accepted to both a California school and a New York City school (after previously getting wait-listed).

Which school did Lady Bird choose to attend? How will her family pay for her college tuition? Will her relationship with her mother stay intact? Socially, where will she stand? Will her dreams and plans be fulfilled? See Lady Bird in theaters to see the ending of this beautiful film, and to have all of your burning questions answered.

Overall, we thought that, unlike many other coming-of-age stories, Lady Bird is able to accurately portray a senior in high school without being too cliche. Although it follows the life story of one specific girl, audiences are able to relate to many of Lady Bird’s life experiences displayed throughout the film.

Also, the film takes the audience on a roller coaster ride of emotion. The spectrum of emotional scenes ranges from hilarity as the JV football coach takes over theater productions, to tear-jerking, as Lady Bird fights with her mother. The film centers around the hot and cold relationship between a mother and daughter, and how despite their differences, Lady Bird’s mother never lets her forget that she loves her. This may hit home with teenage and adult audiences alike, who disagree with their parents, but in the end, will always love them.

To summarize, Lady Bird is a film that everyone should see when given the chance as they will be able to find themselves in one of the film’s many colorful characters; the film is the painfully truthful depiction of high school and the struggles of teenagers trying to find themselves.
