Basketball is back, and the girls are looking to build upon last year’s 9-16 season.

Led by head coach Ian Progin, the team returns most of last year’s young team.

Specifically, the team returns four seniors who hope to serve as leaders both on and off the court: Olivia Buckman, Erin Buckman, Cameron Howell, and Liz Suseck.

Also returning to serve key roles are junior Alyssa Freda, and sophomores Dani Pescatore, Elissa Nsenkyire, and Jill Stanton. New contributors to the varsity team will include juniors Lisa Ross and Payton Quackenbush, along with sophomore Grace O’Connor.

“I think we will be more skilled, in good shape, and have more experience this year,” Progin said.

The team has high hopes for the season, and expects major improvements from last year.

“I’ve got high expectations for the team this year,” Suseck said. “I’m hoping our team qualifies for the state tournament, and advances as far as possible.”

The team will open its season Friday, taking the court at Phillipsburg.
